How we got started

Harry joined the Air Force after graduating from high school and spent three years stationed in England, where he met Lydia, the love of his life. They were married at St John’s Church, Chelmsford, Essex, UK and starting their life together. When Harry's tour was over, he and Lydia returned to the States. They were thrilled to start their family, and soon, Lydia gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. While in the hospital, she shared a room with an Amish lady also named Lydia, who had also given birth to a boy. Both mothers had the same country doctor, who would enter the room and cheerfully exclaim, "How are my two Lydia’s today?"

As their son grew older, Harry and his son started an internet business called

While his son took over management of the business, Harry became interested in raising honeybees. Little did he know how this interest would soon turn into a thriving business with the help of the Amish community and the friendship that had started years earlier Harry and Lydia became fascinated by the Amish way of life, and they started visiting the community regularly, purchasing Amish-made products for their home. As they used these products, they realized that they were of a quality and durability that they had never experienced before. The Amish-made furniture, quilts, and other household items were not only beautiful but they were built to last,

Harry became interested in raising honey bees, and he reached out to the Amish Lydia’s son, Dan, for help. Dan introduced Harry to an Amish man who taught him the basics of beekeeping, and soon he was producing fresh honey that he named “Sophie’s Amish Honey” after his niece, Missie’s Granddaughter who was very instrumental in helping to start the business. The honey was a huge hit with family and friends and Harry realized that he could sell even more if he had more products to offer, so he asked Dan if he would be interested in making beehives, birdfeeders, mailboxes, and other wood products. Dan agreed and soon began making all kinds of products that Harry could sell through a website he had created called

https://www.AmishMadeProducts.com

As the business grew, Dan introduced Harry to other Amish businessmen, all of whom werehorse and buggy Amish with no electricity to their homes or businesses. Everything was made of the highest quality materials. The Amish-made products on the website were a huge hit, and customers loved the authenticity and beauty of the handmade goods. Harry and Lydia were proud to be able to share the beauty and craftsmanship of Amish-made goods with others.
